Here is a brief cross-section of the articles I have written, and an example of the editing I can do.

EDITING SAMPLE: This edit qualifies as a heavy basic edit, maximizing reader comprehension by improving flow and order of information as well as grammar, spelling, and punctuation. The original text is included to provide a basis for comparison.

ACADEMIC WRITING: This sample is the first chapter of my Masters thesis (MA Eng. Lit., Concordia University, Montreal QC, 2000), the subject of which was the effect of Thatcherism on the portrayal of nostalgia in the academic novel. The thesis is entitled Reconstructing the Past in the Academic Novel: The Concept of Nostalgia in Thatcher Britain.

LITERARY COMMENTARY: Literary criticism explores themes within literature. It often examines methodology and philosophy. This sample of light literary criticism was written for a popular audience, and focuses on The Mists of Avalon a widely popular retelling of the Arthurian saga by Marian Zimmer Bradley published in 1982.

BOOK REVIEW: A book review differs from a literary critique in that a review provides a reader with valuable information about the book's success. Does it achieve in what it sets out to do? What are the good points about the book, and what are the bad points? What level of information does it provide? Who is the intended audience? This review is of Deborah Lipp's Elements of Ritual.

EXHIBIT REVIEW: This review is of a museum exhibit. Varna: World's First Gold, Ancient Secrets was developed jointly by the Pointe-?-Calli?re Museum of Archaeology and History in Montreal and the Varna Museum in Bulgaria, and showed in Montreal between November 2002 and May 2003.

OPINION PIECE: An opinion piece examines a personal take on an event or trend. This article, The Alien Has Landed, focuses on the growing comfort with the science fiction genre demonstrated by Disney and was written for fps magazine in March 2003.
